GHS Class of 1969

40th class reunion is coming soon!

GHS Pictorial History

This is a slideshow put together by members of the Class of 1953.  They were celebrating their 55th Reunion during the “Return of the Bulldogs” weekend.  Our classmate Jerry Robinson, popped into the reunion to get some snap shots for his sister who graduated that year but was unable to attend.  He was able to pick up slideshow for his sister and shared it with me, and now I’m sharing it with all of you!

October 2008 Meeting Notice

Hello everyone!  Garfield “Return of the Bulldogs” event was super fantastic!!!  Everyone I met told me how thrilled they were of the whole event and how gorgeous the school is.  I feel really proud to have graduated from this world class joint.

There were also a couple of reunions that weekend.  Classes of 1961-1964 combined and had a wonderful time at the Doubletree Hotel.  In addition, the Class of 1968 met at various places and partied hard.

Of course, both of those reunions had the advantage of Garfield’s reopening celebrations to tie into.

The Class of 1969’s reunion committee is again meeting.  We have a lot of work to do and we need everyone’s help to make this the best reunion ever!

We need committees to choose the venue, music, a memorabilia display, short evening program, promotion, memory book, table decorations, etc.

We need to decide if this will be a one day or a three day event.

Paul Bascomb and Eugene Harris have both offered their offices as a meeting place.  I’ll let you know later which place we will be meeting at.

Tentative meeting dates are Sunday 19th at 3pm or Tuesday 21st  at 6:30 pm.

To get this party started, please forward this e-mail to other classmates that are not listed in the distribution list.  Please encourage everyone to participate.

Pre-Planning Meeting Minutes October 2007

Thank you, Paul for allowing us to use your offices.  Charlotte agreed to take the minutes.  For future, to avoid inconveniencing whoever has volunteered their home / office for the meetings, the following was suggested:  if you are unable to attend please contact that person by noon at the latest on the day of the meeting which is currently set for Sunday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

A copy of the business-card template has been sent out via e-mail.  You are free to print off on plain paper and cut out individually, or print out on blank business card sheets that have perforations.  If you choose to print out on blank business card sheets, feel free to eliminate the border so that it does not print. These cards contain contact information and can be handed out to individuals who have expressed an interest in helping with the planning of the 40th reunion or to just keep in touch.

For those who have received their invitations to the Bulldogs Forever Gala on Saturday, November 10, 2007, Sheila Johnson (Table Captain) advises that you send your monies directly to the foundation.

Pre-Planning Committee Meeting Minutes September 2007

General Information:

  1. Proposed date for the 40th reunion - end of July 2009
  2. Formalization of committee membership and selection of officers – TBD.
  3. Pre-planning meetings to be held once a month until formal committee is set-up.  Meeting duration not to exceed 2 hours.
  4. Garfield High School Foundation 3rd annual Gala, “Bulldogs Forever” to be held on November 10, 2007, $75 per person.  It will be held at the UW HUB Ballroom and includes a “gourmet” dinner” with wine, and live music by the GHS Jazz Band.  Sheila Johnson will chair the Class of 69 table, which consists of eight chairs.  Please contact her via this website for information on how to purchase a chair.
  5. Class of ’69 will donate a basket to the Gala’s auction.  Moines not to exceed $250 and will be donated from the GHS Class of 69 Alumni Assoc. funds.  A Wine and Martini Basket was selected.  Items to be included are upscale wine, martini mix, glasses, and snacks.  Previously two baskets were chosen, however, the committee decided that doing one great basket would be better and generate more interest; therefore a Breakfast Basket was deleted.
  6. A volunteer is needed to be the Class of ’69 historian.  Included in the responsibilities will be storage of items collected thus far, including memorabilia of past events (guest books, invitations, poster board displays, etc.).  If you are interested, please contact us.
  7. The subject of holding the reunion at Emerald Downs was introduced, the committee agree that we have time to look for a place that would serve our needs for the 40th better and have no desire to hold the event there.  Other venue suggestions were Renton Transit Station and Union St. Station.  It was asked that all committee members generate new ideas for a venue and bring to the next meeting.
  8. It was suggested that business type cards be made available to hand out to classmates when we run across them with contact details.  Committe agreed and they will be available at our next meeting.  Contact information will direct alumni to GHS Foundation, Classmate.com, and this website.
  9. Meeting closed at 4:10.
