A Fun Weekend Is Coming! Don’t Miss It!

The greatest time of you life is about to happen this weekend. Don’t
mss it! What is it? It’s our 40th class reunion of course. We start
out with bowling on Friday night at Imperial Lanes, 6-10PM (2101 22nd
Ave So). We already bought some lanes, so come on down. Paul Bascomb
will have some caps and t-shirts with our bulldog and Class of 69 logo
on it for purchase and we are taking donations to build our scholarship
fund which is a bonafide 501C3 charity (tax deduction).

Next on Saturday starting at 6:30, we have the main event held at the
beautiful Yesler Community Center (917 Yesler Way). The Center offers
beautiful views of Southwest Seattle. There is a terrace for those who
need to catch their breath from dancing to much. Alan Yamamoto has put
together a wonderful slideshow from pictures we got from you. It
includes pics from previous events, family photos, and a memorial for
those who have left us to soon. There will be time for you to share your
reflections, stories, and songs with us. This is going to be really a
lot of fun with lots of fun things for you to enjoy.

On Sunday we have a family picnic and ask that you bring your favorite
side dish. The picnic will be at Othello Park (7340 43rd Ave So). We
start at noon. Cleve Ticeson is bringing his movie camera and we are
going to do another YouTube film with all of us singing “We are the
Bulldogs!” So bring your voice and your smile!

Oh! It not to late to purchase your tickets. The committee is meeting this Wednesday at 7PM, my house 919 26th Ave So, Seattle 98144. Come on by and say hello. We also will be taking money on Friday and Saturday at the events. $69 is still the price – no increase for paying at the door. By the way, no tickets were mailed to you. We will have your name at the door for those that already paid. A big thank you for those who sent in their checks so promptly.

Many of you have called and it was a lot of fun talking to you. I and
your Reunion Committee are really looking forward to seeing all of you
this weekend.

Reunion News

My goodness, the reunion is just around the corner!  The committee is
busy putting together something I know will please everyone.  To stay on
track, we are now meeting weekly, still on Sunday's at 4pm.  Everyone is
welcome to attend.  We have a lot of business to take care of but we
really enjoy it when someone new pops in. 

Bruce Haseley stopped by yesterday to drop off his check and to catch
up.  Due to military service keeping him out of the area, this will be
his first reunion.  Please take a moment to welcome him back.

As Marybeth Turner said in a previous e-mail, “Happy June–the weather the past week in Seattle was unusually hot. This weekend it’s cooler and overcast. But it brings to mind that time is speeding past and the date of the reunion is not far off.”

She has mailed out the invitations to everyone in our database. If you did not receive yours, please select the “comment” field and leave me a note.  I’ll get one out to you ASAP.

Reunion Notes

Cleven Ticeson has been working on our PSA (a few of us met up at GHS to do a video) and Alan Yamamoto is working on a photo slideshow. Please send him any photos (especially then and now) that you would like to be included.

We are having a scholarship fundraiser on Saturday at my house. It’s a purse party! If you have ever shopped on Canal St. in NYC, you will love this party. The Bag Babe has a huge stock of purses and accessories. All are under $50. Tell your friends and come out and support our fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to our scholarship fund.

Lastly, we have another meeting this Sunday at my house starting at 4pm. All are welcome and encourage to attend. We still have a lot of work to do and could use your help.

Let’s make this a great meeting and as always, snacks are welcomed.

Ticket Price:  $69 per person for all three days.  We are collecting money now!

Entertainment Committee:

Video–we would like to produce a brief video to use as a public service announcement on Seattle Channel, and also to post on You Tube with links on various internet sites. Cleve Ticeson is the lead for this.

Advertising/Media–we are looking into ads in the Facts and other community newspapers. We will distribute a news release. Also, we will post reunion announcement on Craig’s list, Facebook, etc.

Time line–we are developing this.

Please share with us any suggestions, or interesting information about alumni for the video or a news story–also, any photos from our school years.  If others would like to help us on this committee, please let us know.

Pictures:  Still looking for lots of old pictures.  If you have some, please contact Alan or Marybeth Turner.  Lea Gardner received several photo boards from Marsha Brown.  They included pictures from several 6^th grade classrooms, previous reunions, and Tom Heavey brought a souvenir booklet from the 10^th reunion that consisted of 1979 portraits of the attendees.

Tee Shirts and Caps:  Available thru Jus ‘Playing’

In addition to the ticket price, tee shirts, baseball caps and visors will be available for advance purchase.  Shirts, caps, and visors will be offered in purple with white writing or white with purple writing and will be $15.00 each.  These items will be different from what you can get directly from the school.  Committee to finalize design (bulldog or ’69 proof jug on the front or back) in April’s meeting.

Thanks everyone who came.  We had a full house and got a lot done.  Our next meeting is MARCH 8th  February 22^nd, 919 26^th Ave. South, Seattle.  Please see below for additional planned meeting dates.

General Information:

1.      The site committee, headed by A. Gene Harris, reported their final recommendation for the venue:  New Holly and Yesler Community Centers.   A unanimous decision was made for August 8^th, 2009 at the Yesler CC (917 E Yesler Way, Seattle) with Precise Catering.

2.      Pictures:  Do you have any pictures of previous reunions or get togethers.  If so, please contact or forward pictures to Lea Gardner or Alan Yamamoto.  We are putting together a slideshow of “then and now” photos.  If you would like to help, let us know.   

 -      Lea to contact Marsha, Lisa O. and Johnny Norwood to see if they still have photos and/or negatives.  Tom H. to contact Garfield to see what pictures/records they have.

3.      Next Steps – Entertainment:  Majestic’s are back and with any luck (or money) they will be playing for us!  A. Marie Massey-Nunley heads up the Entertainment Committee and welcomes your inputs.  So start generating those ideas and add your comments below.
